·         The male Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus shown in these photographs is a particularly confiding individual and during the past four years he has probably been photographed more than any other member of his species. Although a four hour wait was required to see him he was eventually heard and then seen and when he flew over he initially checked out the small group of birdwatchers and photographers (with audible rustling of his wings) before alighting on an artificially positioned perch. After posing on the branch for 27 minutes he eventually hopped down to the round feed on some mealworms that had been left for him by earlier visitors. At one point he called several times, providing an excellent opportunity to hear his contact call at full volume.  These photographs were taken using natural light with a Nikon D7200 camera body with an internal 1.3x in-built digital magnifier and a 400mm manual lens.
