The
75th anniversary of the introduction of the famous London RT bus was celebrated on the weekend of 12th-13th
April 2014. On the Saturday at least 15
preserved and varied examples of the RT ‘family’ including the veteran pre-War RT1 (actually only the body qualifies
as it is attached to the chassis of post-War RT1420) were used for a
re-enactment of part of the former original RT Route 22 between
Piccadilly Circus and Hackney and a photograph of each of these buses is shown
here, although not in any particular order.
The operators included the London
Bus Company, Ensignbus,
The London Bus Museum and several
other private owners. Several other RTs were displayed at Ash Grove Bus Garage
and RT2775 was seen on the road as
well. On the following day a number of
these buses joined a larger display at Brooklands in Surrey and some of them
also participated in providing the Route
462 shuttle service between Weybridge and Brooklands. Images of these may be found at: Buses 12. A great deal
of credit is due to the preservationists for turning out their buses in such
superb condition.
