Quite why the Nettle-tree Butterfly Libythea celtis requires unusually long palps is open to question but they are certainly a distinctive feature of this species, as indeed are their scalloped wing-margins. The feeding pattern of the species seems to be almost habitual as individual butterflies will return to the same flowers repeatedly over several days. These photographs were taken in the South of France.
