·         Unusually for a libellulid the Four-spotted Chaser Dragonfly Libellula quadrimaculata is not overtly sexually dimorphic and no blue pruinescence will develop on the adult males. This insect has a habit of perching on stalks protruding through the water’s surface so they can be tricky to photograph unless they settle on nearby vegetation. They are tricky to photograph in flight too as they will rarely hover for more than a few moments.
