OFF-WHITE BUMBLEBEE Bombus mucidus

·         Grauweiße Hummel is a vernacular name locally applied to the bumblebee Bombus mucidus illustrated above although as the name is German in origin this might indicate its usage in the Swiss Alps rather than the French Pyrénées where this photograph was taken at high altitude. Google translates this to Off-white Bumblebee as used here for convenience, but perhaps Grey-white might be a more literal interpretation. It is not known if this rather uncommon and localised bee has a French vernacular name.
