LADYBIRD Coccinella
septempunctata
- The Seven-spot Ladybird Coccinella septempunctata
is arguably the best-known British beetle although some of these
images were obtained in continental Europe. This familiar insect is
subject to little in the way of variation and it is therefore easy to
identify. The arrival of the invasive Harlequin Ladybird Harmonia axyridis has had a detrimental effect on
native aphidophagous ladybirds but the
Seven-spot is probably holding its own by comparison with other formerly
common ladybirds (and particularly the Two-spot Adalia
bipunctata and Ten-spot Ladybirds A.
decempunctata).
