____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Beetles 30 – Silver-green Leaf Weevils
SILVER-GREEN LEAF WEEVILS Phyllobius

SILVER-GREEN LEAF WEEVIL Phyllobius

·
The
rounded scales and red legs are characteristic of the green-scaled Silver-green
Leaf Weevil Phyllobius argentatus so hopefully these beetles have been
correctly identified as there are eight other members of the same genus and the
femoral spines of the forelegs although presumably present cannot be seen in
the photographs. With age some of the attractive green scales are likely to be
rubbed off. This useful NatureSpot reference
table explains the finer points of identification for the Phyllobius
species: https://www.naturespot.org.uk/content/id-guide-phyllobius-weevils. These common weevils are often to be
found on Birches Betula sp. and other broadleaved trees.
