·         Eurasian Reed Warblers Acrocephalus scirpaceus are far more likely to be heard than seen as these summer migrants will spend much of their time surreptitiously skulking around the base of reed beds searching for some of the many invertebrates that live there, their presence being indicated by the movement of the vegetation or by singing. However, sometimes they will show themselves properly, either when they climb up reeds to sing (this term is used correctly but they are far from musical!) from the tops of the reeds or as was in the case for some of these photographs they may stop briefly to preen their plumage in order to keep it in tip-top condition. They may not be colourful but their behaviour is rather endearing.
