The
Green Shieldbug Palomena
prasina is a very familiar insect in the UK although
it may sometimes be confused with the Gorse Shieldbug
Piezodurus lituratus
or the recently introduced Southern Green Shieldbug
Nezara viridula,
both of which have been illustrated elsewhere on this web site. A partial
life-history is shown including two distinct colour-forms of final instar
nymphs.

received atlas, written by the author of 'Ladybirds of Surrey' in
his usual inimitable style, contains 24 full colour plates including over
100 photographs of nymphs and adults. The book includes expertly
illustrated identification keys (by Graham Collins) and these are very
easy to use, even by non-entomologists. The species accounts describe the
biology of a total of 46 British Shieldbugs,
Squash Bugs and allied insects. The atlas should therefore prove to be an
invaluable reference work for anyone with an interest in the Hemiptera of
Britain or northern Europe. In addition, there are accurate and up to date
distribution maps for these insects in the Vice-County of Surrey. 'Shieldbugs of Surrey'

containing high quality illustrations, both photographic and painted (by Ashley Wood), of
over 500 (and possibly more by now) out of a total of almost 2,000 British
bug species. This is a very impressive total and the life-histories are
particularly useful as they show immature stages frequently omitted from
reference books. This site is certainly recommended for those interested
in knowing more about the current distribution of British bugs.
