ALDER SPITTLEBUG Aphrophora alni

·         The Alder Spittlebug Aphrophora alni is one of several similar homopteran bugs commonly known as ‘froghoppers’ but only this species usually (but not always) possesses the pale patches on its wings. The nymphs produce a protective layer of bubbles colloquially known as ‘cuckoo-spit’.
