·         The Black-and-Red Froghopper Cercopis vulnerata (sometimes known as the Red-and-Black Froghopper – perhaps for blatantly obvious reasons in each case and the hyphens appear to be optional!) is a highly distinctive insect and accurate identification of this homopteran bug in the UK should be straightforward as there are no other similar species. There are other bugs belonging to this genus in continental Europe.
