GROUND BUG Eremocoris
podagricus
·
The excellent British Bugs
web site:
https://www.britishbugs.org.uk/heteroptera/Lygaeidae/eremocoris_podagricus.html states
that the ground bug Eremocoris
podagricus
is “…found locally in chalky and sandy areas across central and southern
England” and that the species appears to be associated with “moss
beneath hawthorns growing on chalk downland”. The
rather fresh and strikingly marked example illustrated above was found in a
small London park. Hawthorns Crataegus
sp. were present but the substrate consists of London clay and
there have been no further sightings there. Some quite interesting
invertebrates have appeared at this site, sometimes some distance away from
their preferred habitats!
