·
There is no obvious association
between the Sloebug Dolycoris
baccarum
and the fruit of the Blackthorn Prunus spinosa,
a reference to which had been incorporated in the long-standing vernacular name
of this insect so in recent times the alternative common name of Hairy Shieldbug has become more
widely acceptable. This is a distinctively marked and rather common bug and one
that will be frequently encountered during countryside walks.
