49 – Bronze Shieldbugs
BRONZE SHIELDBUG Troilus luridus
·
The Bronze Shieldbug Troilus luridus
illustrated above was a captive insect that had been collected by Roger Hawkins
during the preparation stages of writing ‘Shieldbugs
of Surrey’ and the photograph of this
predatory insect (scanned from an old transparency) was set up on vegetation in
the photographer’s garden. The orange markings on the antennae are a useful
characteristic that aid with the identification of this insect. As is often the
case, the nymphs (not illustrated) are far more colourful than their parents
(hence ‘luridus’).
