Butterflies 113 – Hermits
HERMIT
BUTTERFLY Chazara briseis (m)
THE HERMIT BUTTERFLY Chazara
briseis
·
The origin of the vernacular name of the Hermit Chazara briseis
is something of a mystery, but butterflies need to be called something! This is
a Southern European species, and these rather poor-quality photographs were
taken back in the pre-digital days of transparency film. The second photograph
may be of a female as the characteristic dark marking on the leading edge of
the hindwing is relatively pale. The photographs were taken in the South of
France.
