DUKE OF BURDUNDY Hamearis lucina

·         At one time the photographer would have been able to have photographed the rare Duke of Burgundy Hamearis lucina in Surrey but sadly this vulnerable and rather sedentary little butterfly has now become extinct in Vice-county 17 despite the efforts of Butterfly Conservation to preserve the relict population. The example shown above was photographed in France (scanned from a transparency).

·         David’s (very!) short film of a Duke of Burgundy may be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IJZWXbRm60&list=PL4AirIEc0NofhDbxohAG_PoMc7P2iGR5N&index=56&t=0s.
