The above photographs of presumed female Pigmy
Skipper Butterflies Gegenes pumilio were taken in Toscana (Tuscany), Italy. The
ground coloration was paler and with more orange scales than some reference
photographs of this rather featureless butterfly might indicate. The presence
of faint spots on the undersides of the hindwings should exclude the otherwise
similar Mediterranean Skipper G. nostrodamus.
