The common and widespread Large Skipper Butterfly
Ochlodes sylvanus
have noticeably clubbed and hooked antennae (a useful field characteristic when
distinguishing these insects from the superficially similar but smaller ‘golden’
Small Skipper Thymelicus sylvestris and
Essex Skipper T. lineata in the
UK) and the males possess distinctive black sex-brands on their forewings.
