The Dingy Skipper Butterfly Erynnis
tages is rather moth-like in appearance –
indeed it is far less colourful than many moths and relatively difficult to
spot unless it flies. Although widely distributed, this small butterfly is most
likely to be found on chalk or limestone in the southern counties of England
where it survives in small and often isolated colonies. It is normally univoltine in the UK, with just a single generation on the
wing emerging in late April, although recently the likelihood of seeing second
generation butterflies later in the summer has increased in consequence of a warming
climate.
