- The photographer fortunately
noticed the Lesser
Emperor Dragonfly Anax parthenope in the second
photograph roosting before it spotted him, and it was therefore
possible to obtain a sequence of photographs before it was disturbed. Such
opportunities are rare with large hawker dragonflies and need to be
grasped whenever possible. This photograph was taken in the Camargue, South
of France. This species is being recorded with increasing frequency in the
UK, and the first (cropped) image of a patrolling male was obtained in a
London park.
