                                                                                                                                                            LADYBIRD FLIES Gymnosoma rotundatum

·         The vernacular name of the distinctive and uncommon Ladybird Fly Gymnosoma rotundatum refers to the pattern of black spots on the rounded abdomen of this shieldbug parasite but (as is often the case for ladybirds) the markings are inconsistent. This fly favours calcareous habitats in the South East of England and it is often attracted by composite flowers.
