Fortunately, sufficient identification features were
visible through the dusting of pollen-grains to be able to identify the conopid
fly illustrated above as a Plain-winged Spring Beegrabber Fly Myopa testacea. Conopid flies are parasitic on hymenopterans, and
their larvae will develop inside victims that the females have ambushed and
into which eggs have been injected through ovipositors that are
capable of penetrating their abdomens.
