The Tooth-thighed Hoverfly Tropidia scita is one of the
more straightforward British fly species to identify because of the eponymous
feature clearly visible in the second photograph. Whether this projection has
any biological function is open to speculation. The vicinity of reedbeds is the
preferred habitat.
