·         These Crimson-belted Hoverfly Brachypalpoides lentus photographs were taken at an ancient woodland site in Scotland where there was a strong population of this impressive insect. The larvae are saproxylic. Although the adults are honeydew feeders, there was clear evidence that they were also feeding on pollen.
