·         Although not reported as being typical behaviour, the female Forest Hoverfly Brachypalpus laphryformis illustrated above was observed to have been feeding on the pollen of Field Rose Rosa arvensis. This uncommon insect is an inhabitant of woodlands. Note the swollen hind femora.
