- Nomad bees are cleptoparasites of mining bees, often those belonging
to the large Andrena genus of
solitary bees. Lathbury’s Nomad Bee Nomada lathburiana
is found in association with the Ashy or Grey Mining Bee Andrena
cineraria. Both of these
species have been increasing their ranges in the UK recently. The tenth
photograph illustrates N.
lathburiana hovering close to an Andrena cineraria nest
aggregation in search of an unguarded nest hole.

been described in detail in David Baldock's excellent and thoroughly
researched 'Bees
of Surrey', a book which will be of value to
hymenopterists throughout the UK and (judging from the very positive
French reviews) those operating in northern Europe as well.
