BUFFISH MINING BEE Andrena nigroaenea (f)

·         This pristine female Buffish Mining Bee Andrena nigroaenea was so freshly emerged when the above photographs were taken that she did not closely resemble the many worn specimens that might be observed in the field as many of the rather beautiful golden hairs are often worn away. The bands on the tergites are a paler colour (Steven Falk pers. comm.) but if seen from the front in fresh specimens this difference may not be noticeable. However, the presence of golden pollen-brushes on the hind legs is a useful field characteristic even in worn specimens.
