·         The attractive yellow, black, and red males of the familiar Large Red-tailed Bumblebee Bombus lapidarius are much more colourful than the females and workers of this species and they are also easier to photograph when feeding than the frenetically active workers. Beware similar looking red-tailed cuckoo bees (the females of which will lack pollen-baskets). This is one of the seven common bumblebee species likely to be found in any gardens lying within its geographical range.
