RUBY-TAILED WASP Hedychridium roseum

·         Ruby-tailed, Jewel or Cuckoo Wasps (Chrysididae) can be difficult insects to identify but Hedychridium roseum poses fewer problems than most as it possesses a conveniently matt (non-metallic) orange-red abdomen. The main host species is likely to be the black and red digger wasp Astata boops, a shieldbug predator.
