·         The position of the pale abdominal bands at the front margin of the tergites (most clearly seen in the first photograph) and the leg colouration are significant when identifying Orange-footed Furrow Bees Lasioglossum xanthopus although the specific name implies that the feet are yellow rather than orange. This is the largest British Lasioglossum species and the only one with entirely orange hind tibiae and tarsi. A male is illustrated feeding on Field Scabious Knautia arvensis – note his relatively long antennae.
