The above photographs of a Marbled Clover Moth Heliothis viriplaca
(Noctuidae, Heliothinae)
were taken in France. This day-flying moth has a limited range in the UK where it
may be found at some southeastern and southern coastal sites, particularly in
East Anglia. It is a UK rarity, but as immigrants may fly in from the Continent
and set up transient breeding colonies it is difficult to ascertain the exact
status, and this may change in with time response to anthropogenic climate
change. The larvae have been described as feeding on the flowers and seed-heads
of a wide range of plants.
