LESSER SWALLOW PROMINENT MOTH Pheosia gnoma

·         The two bold white tapered markings on the inner margins of the forewings may be reliably used to separate the Lesser Swallow Prominent Moth Pheosia gnoma (Notodontidae, Notodontinae) from its slightly larger and similar relative, the Swallow Prominent Moth P. tremula. The larvae of P. gnoma feed on Birches Betula spp., so there is no direct competition for food between these species. The above photograph has been scanned from a transparency.
