DARK ARCHES MOTH Apama monoglypha

·         The Dark Arches Moth Apama monoglypha (Noctuidae, Amphipyrinae) shouldn’t pose any identification problems as the white zigzag outer crosslines contrasting against black chevrons are distinctive. However, as is so often the case with moths, the ground colour of the wings is variable, with some examples being significantly darker or paler than the moth shown in the above illustration. The larvae feed on a range of grasses. The photograph has been scanned from an old transparency.
