SMALL PURPLE AND GOLD MOTH Pyrausta aurata

·         The Small Purple and Gold Moth Pyrausta aurata (Pyralidae) is one of several similar common species of diminutive day-flying micro-moths that may be easily overlooked. However, they merit closer attention as their markings are just as attractive as those of many butterflies (and more so than some) – and because they will feed on colourful flowers, they are photogenic. However, these moths are easily disturbed, so they will need to be approached carefully. Usually, they will fly short distances and settle again. Most photographs will be unlikely to be part of a series!
