LACE BORDER MOTH Scopula ornata

·         The delicate and rather beautiful Lace Border Moth Scopula ornata (Geometridae, Sterrhinae) is associated mainly with chalk downland habitats in the UK and it is local and uncommon in its distribution. However, it is more widespread on the Continent where the first photograph of a fresh specimen was taken. As will be evident there is some degree of variation in the intensity of the wing-markings. These moths are very easily disturbed and as they have a habit of settling underneath vegetation obtaining photographs may not be easy.
