BORDERED SALLOW MOTH Pyrrhia umbria

·         The Bordered Sallow Moth Pyrria umbria (Noctuidae, Helionthinae) prefers coastal habitats, and it may also be found in woodlands. The larvae can feed on plants and trees found in either of these habitats. This species is local in the UK but widely distributed. This example had been attracted to light, but unfortunately, the author cannot recall the location (probably somewhere in France). The photograph has been scanned from a transparency. The markings are distinctive.
