BUFF ARCHES MOTH Habrosyne pyritoides

·         The Buff Arches Moth Habrosyne pyritoides is a very handsome insect and readily identifiable as no other British moth has comparable markings. The looped ‘arches’ on the forewings are particularly distinctive. This species belongs to the subfamily Thyatirinae, formerly considered to be a family (Thyatiridae) in its own right, but now treated as a subfamily of Drepanidae (Hook-tips and their allies), although there is little obvious physical resemblance to these moths. The photograph of a rain-spattered individual has been scanned from an old transparency.
