LARGE
RANUNCULUS MOTH Polymixis flavicincta
·
The exquisite, cryptic markings of the Large Ranunculus Moth Polymixis
flavicincta (Noctuidae, Noctuinae) enable this insect to camouflage itself
beautifully against a variety of backgrounds. The specific name refers to the
ochre patches reminiscent of some lichens. The larvae can feed on a wide range
of foodplants. The above photograph, scanned from a transparency, was taken in
London.
