DOUBLE-STRIPED PUG MOTH Gymnoscelis rufifasciata

·         The Double-striped Pug Moth Gymnoscelis rufifasciata belongs to a large sub-family (Larentiinae) of about fifty small, inconspicuous Geometrid macro-moths (smaller than some micro-moths) with cryptic coloration rendering them difficult to see when at rest. The species can be difficult to separate, even with the aid of high-quality reference material, and particularly so if any distinctive markings have been worn away in older specimens. The colours may be less consistent than the shapes of the markings. With thanks to Graham Collins for confirming this identification.
