· It had been a long-term ambition to photograph ascalaphids (owlflies) but until the photographer discovered this example of Libelloides longicornis (known as l’Ascalaphe Ambré in France) in a southern French meadow on high ground close to the Ardèche valley it had not been possible to visit France at the right time of year. Finding this one during the final day of a visit in July was a nice bonus!
