HEATHER SPIDER Thomisus onustus

·         The attractive Heather Spider Thomisus onustus is normally to be found lying in wait for prey on Bell Heather Erica cinerea or Cross-leaved Heath Erica tetralix, in which case this particular pink colour form female might have been rather less conspicuous that she was when sitting on a Buttercup Ranunculus sp. flower. However, as may be seen from the photograph, an unsuspecting fly still managed to spring the waiting trap!

·         This event was captured on video and David’s short film of the moment of capture may be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RPQECUVyPA&list=PL4AirIEc0NofrocqOMDdQ-AlSBrfto2ps&index=10&t=0s.
