THE SPINACH MOTH Eulithis mellinata

·         The Spinach Moth Eulithis mellinata (Geometridae, Larentiinae) is described as adopting an unusual resting posture, with the abdomen raised, and the hindwings held away from the body. This perhaps not particularly obvious from the above photograph, although the whole of the abdomen is visible. The larvae feed on Currants Ribes spp., so they are likely to be found in gardens where these shrubs have been planted. The photograph has been scanned from an old transparency.
