·         The Lesser Yellowlegs Tringa flavipes is an *uncommon transatlantic vagrant but sometimes these elegant little waders will overwinter in the UK if they have been blown off-course by strong westerly winds. The subject of these photographs has been spending the winter of 2018-9 at Lodmoor in Weymouth and occasionally visiting Radipole Lake and it has proven to be a popular attraction for bird-watchers. At the time of writing (March 2019) it is still present and beginning to acquire its summer plumage. Whether it will successfully migrate or return to these locations is not known – but it would be nice if it did!

·         *According to ‘Britain’s Birds An identification guide to the birds of Britain and Ireland’ Hume, Still, Swash, Harrop & Tipling, Princeton Press 2016 ISBN 978-0-691-15889-1 (an excellent reference and part of the very useful WILDGuides series) there have been a total of about 500 records of T. flavipes within this geographical region.
