The Eurasian Teal Anas crecca is the smallest British dabbling duck and it
is often associated with muddy marshland sites. Although generally shy and
readily spooked, there are some locations where they have become quite
accustomed to human presence. The beautiful blueish-green speculum may be
particularly conspicuous when it catches the sun and the colour itself is
angle-dependent. As may be seen in the first photograph the male is able to
raise his crest when displaying – or in this case preening.
